What is Econoflex?

Econoflex is Packlane’s response to one of our most popular customer requests: a fully recyclable, budget-friendly, and environmentally conscious shipping box solution!

Our innovative Econoflex print technology achieves crisp fine lines and details with single-color black ink, comparable to flexographic printing quality. These boxes are made using sturdy, 100% recycled and recyclable kraft corrugated cardboard, all at an economical price!

What do I need to know about Econoflex?

  • The minimum order quantity is one (1) box — perfect for prototyping!
  • Quantities of 1-10,000 boxes can be quoted and ordered instantly on our Econoflex product page. For larger quantities, please send us a message.
  • Econoflex is available in select standard sizes. If you require a size that is not shown on the website, please reach out to our Packlane Plus team.
  • Printable areas are set up as a two-panel customization. This allows for four-sided printing (the front and back panels will have the same design, and the left and right panels will share it).
  • All designs are printed in black ink only; different shades in the print are created by using halftones.

What is a halftone?

A halftone is a printing technique that breaks an image into a series of dots of varying sizes and spacing; these dots reproduce the artwork's full tonal range, creating the illusion of a grayscale image. Our online design tool converts your artwork to grayscale. Then our prepress team converts it into a black-only halftone, so you don't have to figure it out yourself!

Solid black elements will print as 100% black, while any gray or lower-opacity elements will be converted to halftone dots. You'll have a chance to review and approve the adapted design during proofing.

In the close-up photo below, you can see the varying shades of black and gray in the dog and bone, created using ink dots (this is a halftone). Solid design elements, like the black text, are printed as solid shapes for a crisp, high-quality print.
