What is Faux Kraft?
A popular request we receive from customers is how to print vivid colors on an otherwise Kraft box. Another common ask is white ink: whether we can print a white-ink effect on Kraft material. Faux Kraft is our innovative answer to both of these questions!
Faux Kraft lets you design your artwork on top of a kraft-colored background image. You can design with white as the only color, pair white elements with other full-color graphics, or add full-color artwork only. The box is printed using digital CMYK printing, so there are no added costs for any of these design options; you can let your creativity run free!
How is Faux Kraft created?
Faux Kraft is created by printing a high-resolution image of a natural kraft pattern on both the inside and outside of the box. This technique creates the natural look and feel of Kraft while producing vividly colored graphics, with the option to design your artwork to simulate white ink printed on Kraft.
How is Faux Kraft material different from regular Kraft material?
Natural Kraft material is made from brown paper fibers, as shown in the printed artwork. In contrast, Faux Kraft uses a printed kraft pattern on Standard White material–because of the difference in the base material color, Faux Kraft can represent the colors in your design more vibrantly than Kraft. Both material options use our HDPrint Matte printing process.
How does Faux Kraft look?
To produce Faux Kraft, the background pattern is printed on Packlane’s Standard White material with a matte finish. It looks and feels very similar to boxes made from Kraft paper. However, because the base material is white, colored artwork will print closer to how it appears on screen on Faux Kraft (the same artwork would shift colors on standard Kraft because of the material's inherent brown color).
Which products are available with Faux Kraft material?
Faux Kraft material is available on all our corrugated box styles, including:
- Mailer Boxes
- Shipping Boxes
- Corrugated Product Boxes
- Book Shipping Boxes
Should I choose Kraft (brown) material or Faux Kraft material for my packaging?
The best material choice for your project depends on your design. Faux Kraft works best to create a kraft design with more vibrant images or white elements. Meanwhile, Kraft (brown) material creates a rustic feel, though colors may look muted on the brown surface, and it cannot include white graphics.
Can I use white graphics and text in my Faux Kraft design?
Yes. Faux Kraft allows for white and light-colored elements to be used in the design. We leave the white parts unprinted, so the color of the Standard White base material shows through.
How do I prepare artwork for Faux Kraft printing?
For the best printing results, follow the recommendations in our Artwork Guidelines for Faux Kraft, which explain how to prepare artwork, set up your files, and avoid common design issues.
